Happy Valentine's~!

Hello!

Happy belated Valentine's to you; here's a little Karasuno gen fic/Tanaka appreciation fic, because I adore this boy so damn much. I hope you enjoy~

Rating: G

“HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!” Noya’s voice thunders across the gymnasium as he sprints inside, bag slung on his back.

“NOYA-SAN!” Tanaka leaps up and runs over to him. “Didja get any Valentine’s Day chocolates?”

Noya shakes his head but he is still beaming, much to Tanaka’s surprise. “I didn’t, but I’m still hopeful! What about you?”

Tanaka is about to respond when Narita and Kinoshita walk into the gymnasium, laughing about something. The air on the team this afternoon is light; everyone seems to be in a positive mood, and Tanaka feels as though they are going to have a very good training session indeed. He scans the room while he helps set it up, feeling satisfied. Kinoshita and Narita jog together, talking quietly amongst themselves. Ennoshita gives out encouraging orders, and Yamaguchi jogs alongside Hinata and Kageyama. Tsukishima, however, continues to rummage around in his bag, looking flushed.

“Whoa, Tsukishima! How many chocolates did ya get?!” Noya shouts, sounding almost angry.

Tsukishima flushes, pushing his glasses further up his nose. “That,” he says curtly, “is none of your business, Nishinoya-san.”
Tanaka can’t help himself; he sees the seemingly endless boxes of chocolates that Tsukishima is trying to pack away and chimes in, “TSUKISHIMA! How come you have so many chocolates? Do you have a girlfriend?!” He carries on in this vein for quite some time until Ennoshita yells at him to stop talking and start running.

“How did this kid manage to get more chocolates than us?” Noya mumbles to Tanaka while they stretch. Tanaka thinks it’s a bit rich for Noya to call Tsukishima a kid when he’s half his height, but he doesn’t say anything. He couldn’t agree more, though - not that he is entirely pissed, of course, but he would have liked at least one chocolate. He’d never received chocolates before, unless he counted that one time his teacher gave their whole class chocolates in primary school. It would have been nice to receive one chocolate on his last Valentine’s Day in high school.

Training continues for another hour, without any sign of their manager. They focus on cardio today, and throw in some passing drills. It’s nearing five o’clock when a very red-faced Yachi walks into the gymnasium, looking adorably nervous but excited about something. Ennoshita signals for the team to stop their training.

“Yachi-san! How are ya?” Tanaka greets their manager warmly, who beams back.

“Hello, Tanaka-kun! Hey, everyone,” Yachi says, once the team has settled down. She smiles as she pulls out a large box out of her bag. “I-I made these for all of you! Happy Valentine’s Day!” Yachi blushes furiously, thrusting the box in Ennoshita’s hands. The team is silent for a moment before they all erupt at the same time.

Thank you, Yachi-san!”

“Yachi-chan! You’re the best!”

“Thanks so much, Yachi-san. You’re too kind.”

The team clambers forward: the first years look absolutely thrilled about getting their first high school Valentine’s Day chocolates; Hinata and Kageyama fight over which piece they want; Yamaguchi and Tsukishima thank her politely before taking a piece each; Kinoshita and Narita follow through.

“Thanks, Yachi-san!” Tanaka says with all sincerity as he takes a little square of homemade chocolate.

“You’re amazing!” Noya thanks their manager who flushes under all the compliments.

Tanaka takes a bite of the candy and it tastes like everything he ever hoped a homemade Valentine’s chocolate would taste like; it’s sweet - but not overwhelmingly so - and full of a rich cocoa flavour that bursts in his mouth.

“Happy Valentine’s Day!” Yachi repeats to the team, cheeks still slightly red.

“Happy Valentine’s Day!” They all chorus back, beaming.

Tanaka looks around at his teammates and friends, and smiles to himself. This was the best Valentine’s Day ever.
