Here, have some hopefully cute Otabek/Yuri with cultural differences. ♥ Happy V-Day!

“I think I understand the rules,” Yurio said a little dubiously, patting his horse on the flank. The white gelding whinnied, then bent its head to snuffle fondly at Yurio’s hat. The faux-fur trim seemed to fascinate the horse, given that it had tried to eat the hat twice already.

Personally, Yurio thought it was an improvement on the goat that had tried to eat his hair.

He held his hat firmly in place with one hand and arched an eyebrow at Otabek.

“I start galloping from behind you and when I pass you, you start galloping. If you can catch up to me before I reach the finish line, you get to kiss me.”

There was a crowd of Otabek’s friends near the finish line, all waving encouragement, and a two nearby who had helped saddle the horse. Both of them, as well as Otabek, nodded in response to Yurio’s succinct summary of the rules.

“Yes, that’s exactly it,” Otabek said from atop his own horse. He’d already mounted the black mare and now waited for Yurio to lead his horse back and start.

“Okay. I understand all that. But what’s the whip for?” Yurio asked as he brandished the item in question. Otabek didn’t have a whip and Yurio was not going to hit his horse! Besides, he’d told Otabek he wasn’t as comfortable riding as Otabek was. Whipping his steed would not make him more comfortable.

“Oh, that?” Otabek’s cheeks seemed to flush a little redder though it was difficult to tell with the cold stinging their faces to pink. “It’s to hit me with. If I don’t catch you.”

“…” Yurio grinned, cold-chapped lips peeling away from his teeth in a worrying curve, and swished the whip through the air experimentally. His horse nickered and stepped back, snorting uneasily, so Yurio tucked the whip back into the side pocket and smoothed his hand down the horse’s mane.

“Otabek,” he said, smirking openly up at his boyfriend. “This is the first time I’ve hoped you won’t be able to kiss me.”

From Otabek’s furrowed forehead and scrunched up nose, it was clear that he was starting to rethink the value of introducing Yurio to their cultural games.

Otabek’s friends whooped with laughter, saying something in their native tongue that Yurio didn’t understand but could tell was teasing from their tone. He grinned at them, gesturing one of them should help him up onto the horse, and then smirked again at Otabek before he pulled his scarf up over his face.

He had a race to win.
