Re: ILU
The Same But Not [Fic]
The morning of this fateful day was like any other, Iwaizumi and Oikawa would meet each other in the morning and walk casually to school to head to morning practice.
"Morning Iwa-chan~" Oikawa's cheery voice rang throughout the street.
Iwaizumi grunted a good morning while slightly glaring at his always cheerful friend. Oikawa smiled and laughed at this, even thought it was something that happened morning he was still very amused by the difference between when Iwaizumi was on the way to school and how he was once morning practice had begun.
It was the usual banter for them, though mostly Oikawa speaking as Iwaizumi wasn't paying much attention to his chatty friend. This was until Oikawa mentioned the topic Iwaizumi really did not want to hear about. Valentine's Day. Iwaizumi quickly turned to his head to glare at his friend.
"Geez Iwa-chan, no need to glare," Oikawa says with a pout, "you don't have to be jealous that I will get more chocolates than you today." He finished this with his signature wink.
1, 2, 3.
"Dumbass," Iwaizumi growls while smacking Oikawa across the back of the head, "Hurry up or we'll be late."
Iwaizumi hurries off to the gym leaving an injured Oikawa, pouting and rubbing the back of his head.
"Wait! Wait, for me Iwa-chan~"
Iwaizumi ignored the wails coming from Oikawa as he neared to the gym, he really just wanted to quickly get started and let out whatever frustrations he had. He didn't know why he was so irked at the moment but what ever the reason he just wanted some way to vent.
Iwaizumi thought that maybe because he was dreading the day from start to finish that he was already started to get angry.
----
Morning practice began without a hitch, a jog with the team, stretches, serve and receive practice. All the usual stuff, even the squealing. Yes, squealing. Though there was only one thing much different about the squealing this morning, it was 100 times louder than usual.
Oikawa would now and then stop to smile and wave at his onlookers because why disappoint them when they clearly came to see him. This clearly did not sit well with most of the team this morning due to the fact that every time Oikawa would smile and wave the volume of the squeals would increase ten-fold and seemed to create a distraction for a lot of the team members.
Iwaizumi clenched the volleyball in his hand while he slowly stalked closer towards Oikawa. This was why he was vice-captain, because he seemed to be able to keep the captain in check for the majority of his antics.
Serving the ball straight into the back of Oikawa's head, Oikawa quickly turned to pout but stopped when he saw the anger clearly written on Iwaizumi's face. At least Oikawa knew when not to make jabs at Iwaizumi.
----
All hell broke loose at the shoe lockers. There were notes on the floors, crammed in the shoe locker and in the mix of it all lots and lots of boxes all wrapped neatly with bows. Oikawa couldn't surpress his grin as he saw this sight, slowly opening his shoe locker he was ready for the avalanche. The notes that poured out and the sweet smell that began to fill the air, Iwaizumi scrunched up his nose slightly in distaste.
Iwaizumi looked on as he watched Oikawa pick up each note and box, trying to cram into his bag. Iwaizumi tried to hold a slight snort in as it had reached a point where OIkawa could no longer fit anything more and was struggling to hold it all. After watching for a few moments, Iwaizumi rustled in his bag for a moment and pulled out a bunch of neatly folded re-usable bags.
"Here," Iwaizumi opened up a bag and shoved it in front of Oikawa, "use this."
The bag swung slightly as OIkawa took a moment to stare at it. He was in shock. He never would have thought Iwaizumi would be this considerate of him.
"What? hurry up and put the stuff in the bag dumbass," Iwaizumi grumbled as he continued to stand there and watch Oikawa's stunned face.
Waking up from his initial shock, Oikawa grinned wildly as he began to place as much as he could in the open bag.
"Wah~ Iwa-chan you're acting rather nice today~" he hummed as he piled more into the open bag, "maybe someone will finally confess to you today hehe."
Iwaizumi clicked his tongue in annoyance. Yes it was just Oikawa's normal jeering but today just made it seem even more annoying. He let out a sigh as he watched Oikawa cramming the last of the letters and chocolates into the bag before handing it over.
"I'm not carrying any for you so just take these," Iwaizumi stated nonchalantly while handing the rest of the re-usable bags over, "see you later."
----
The day was long. For every moment possible it was confession, after confession that Oikawa lost count. The number of letters and gifts were now beyond what he ever thought he would ever receive. He smiled at the thought of the bags which Iwaizumi gave him this morning, very un-Iwa-chan he thought. Oikawa figured he'd thank Iwaizumi but of course take a jab at him first, snickering at the scrunched up face Iwaizumi would make.
Since Oikawa had been called out at nearly every occasion, he and Iwaizumi didn't meet again until after school practice bumping into each other in the hallway as they were both headed towards the gym.
Oikawa grinned at the sight of his friend. It was nice. He didn't fully understand it yet, the feeling of calm and a sense of comfort whenever he was with Iwaizumi. To Oikawa it was just something normal, something meant to be.
Iwaizumi took a quick side glance at Oikawa, he could tell that Oikawa was seriously struggling with all that bags he was carrying. Sighing he outstretched his hand signalling for Oikawa to hand some it over.
"Iwa-chan are you offering to help me carry some of it?" Oikawa exclaimed, faking shock in his usual sing-song voice.
Iwaizumi turned his head glaring at slowly clenching his outstretched hand into a his fist.
"Do you want any help or not?"
"Yes~ Yes~ Thank you very much"
Handing over some of the bags, they fell into the same pace and a calming silence setted between the two of them.
----
The day was ending.
After school practice was over.
Time to go home.
It was quiet. Unusually quiet.
The only sound that could be heard were the rustling of the bags and the crunching of their shoes.
Something had definitely been bothering Oikawa all day today and now was his only chance to say something as it was just the two of them. Hopefully nothing would get in the way.
"Say Iwa-chan I have a question," Oikawa started slowly. Standing still he paused and took in a deep breath.
Iwaizumi noticed the lack of footsteps. Turning around he saw Oikawa staring at him and standing a fair way back.
"What is it?" Iwaizumi prodded as he walked back towards Oikawa.
They were now only a few centimetres away from each other. The silence lay thick in the air, the tension was high.
"Why...why haven't you said my name all day?" Oikawa whispered.
"What?" Iwaizumi raised his eyebrow, looking questionably at his friend.
"I said. Why haven't you said my name all day!?" Oikawa repeats, raising his voice slightly
"I have no idea what you're talking about dumbass,"
"There you go again! You've been saying 'dumbass' or nothing at all!"
"I'm just calling you as I would usually call you, I don't know what you're getting angry about," Iwaizumi stated though avoiding all contact.
Oikawa drops the bags he's carrying with a thump onto the ground, letters and boxes scatter all around his feet. He roughly grabs Iwaizumi buy the collar of his shirt.
"Look at me and say it!"
Even in this situation Iwaizumi avoids eye contact for as long as he can. A minute passes between the two of them, in this instance Iwaizumi takes a small glance at Oikawa. His eyes widen at the sight, it wasn't Oikawa's usual playful pouting face but the face that Oikawa usually makes when he is clearly frustrated. A face he only ever saw when Oikawa was playing volleyball.
"H-Hey...!" Iwaizumi begins as he tries to grab OIkawa's hands.
Putting as much force as he can, Oikawa slaps away Iwaizumi's hands and forcefully pushes him away.
"...That's enough," Oikawa mumbles as you looks away.
Crouching down he slowly collects all the spilled letters and boxes. Iwaizumi sits silently on the ground as he stares at Oikawa's back. The rustling of the bags were the only thing that could be heard echoing between the two of them.
One minute, two minutes. Time ticks away between the two of them, even though it had only been a few minutes it felt that much longer. Iwaizumi clenches is hands into a fist, he sighs and helps himself up to get closer to Oikawa.
"Hey..." he begins as he crouches down next to Oikawa. Scratching the back of his head he takes and deep breath.
"Sorry about today," he continues.
Oikawa stops what he's doing to listen but avoiding eye contact.
"I just seemed to have unconsciously avoided saying your name because you know," he stumbled a bit with his words, "I may have been jealous about what was going to happen today". Finishing he bit his lip as he waited for a reaction of some sort.
"Jealous...? Well, well Iwa-chan it seems you just can't b-"
Before Oikawa could finish his teasing Iwaizumi quickly pressed their lips together to stop the rest of Oikawa's sentence. After a few seconds, they separated silently looking into each other's eyes.
"Shut up, Tooru,"
Iwaizumi stood up dusting off his pants and began the walk home again. Stopping for just a quick glance back to look at Oikawa's stunned face, he held back a chuckle and his blush.
"Hurry up or I'll leave you behind"
The day started out the same like always but just today it ended differently.

"Hey, roommate."
Oikawa has taken to addressing Futakuchi as roommate, because that's what he is. He doesn't deserve a real name. Oikawa knows he's being a little childish about it, but after Futakuchi spent a full two hours in the bathroom one Friday morning when Oikawa was busting to pee and had class at nine, Futakuchi has had his name privileges revoked. He'll get it back when he does something nice for Oikawa, like cooking him dinner every night a month or making his bed in the mornings, even though they sleep in separate rooms and so far Futakuchi has been Banned from Oikawa's room, pending further notice.
"What?" Futakuchi asks. He doesn't even have the decency to look up. He's sitting on the couch with his legs up on the cushions—and who knows where his feet have been?—reading a volleyball magazine. Their one common interest. Oikawa hates that they have something in common.
"I'm going out," Oikawa says.
"I didn't need to know that," Futakuchi says, a grin playing at the corner of his mouth. Oikawa especially hates Futakuchi's mouth. "I doubt I would've noticed."
"Yeah, well," Oikawa says, "it's called manners. Maybe no-one ever taught you those, but—"
"Ha ha," Futakuchi interrupts. "Are we done yet?"
Sometimes Oikawa wonders if Futakuchi hates him as much as he hates Futakuchi. "We're done," Oikawa says.
He grabs his scarf and heads for the door, eager to get out of his stupid house and away from his stupid roommate and meet up with his friends for dinner. Except, when he opens the door, it's snowing. No, it's not just snowing, it's a blizzard, and it blows in through the door in the second before Oikawa pulls it shut. It's not just a blizzard—they're snowed in, blockaded up to Oikawa's hips.
Now Futakuchi looks up. "Nice," he says, "good weather we're having."
"I was going to go out," Oikawa seethes.
"Oh no," Futakuchi says, smirking, "guess you're stuck in here with me."
"Do we even have anything for dinner?" Oikawa asks. "You were meant to go shopping earlier."
"Was I?" Futakuchi plays innocent, slumping back down onto the couch. "Well, either way, it was snowing, so I didn't."
Oikawa takes a deep breath. He takes another. He takes deep breaths until he's sure he's not going to start screaming, and walks quietly to the kitchen, opening the fridge.
"What's the matter?" Futakuchi calls. "Did you have a hot date tonight?"
"I was going out with friends," Oikawa says. He knows he's not being the bigger man, acting petty and talking through gritted teeth, but Futakuchi is not exactly helping. "You know, those things you don't have?"
"Very funny," Futakuchi says. "You should be a comedian."
Oikawa hears footsteps coming up from behind him, and Futakuchi peers over his shoulder and into the fridge. "There's nothing," Oikawa says. "Don't waste your time looking."
"That's not true," Futakuchi says. "There's an onion. There are a few tomatoes. We can make a salad."
"I'm not having salad for dinner," Oikawa says. "We'll order something. They'll just have to deliver it in the snow. I'm sure they have special shoes for that."
"If anywhere's even doing delivery tonight," Futakuchi points out.
"Do you have a better idea, roommate?" Oikawa asks, closing the fridge and turning around so he's glaring right at Futakuchi.
Futakuchi shrugs. "I think there's ice cream in the freezer."
Ice cream for dinner. Great. So this is what the great Oikawa Tooru has been reduced to. Ice cream for dinner with his roommate-slash-nemesis. It could hardly get any worse than this.
"Forget it," Oikawa says, readjusting his scarf. "I'll brave the blizzard."
There's a new expression on Futakuchi's face, one Oikawa doesn't recognise. It's like he wants to say something, but can't, for whatever reason.
"What?" Oikawa snaps.
"It's just that—ah, well, I don't think it's that safe."
And Oikawa notices that along with the weird expression, Futakuchi is blushing. "Aww, what's this? Does my roommate care about me after all?"
"Shut up," Futakuchi says, "make your own dinner."
Oikawa particularly hates Futakuchi's mouth, so he only kisses him quickly before slipping out of the kitchen to put his scarf back in his room. "I suppose there's nothing wrong with ice cream for dinner in the middle of a snowstorm," he muses.
From somewhere in the kitchen, he hears Futakuchi say, "What the hell was that?"
Grinning to himself, Oikawa decides this counts as a victory. And maybe in a few days Futakuchi will earn his name back. "That," Oikawa says, "was thanks."
"Thanks for what?" Futakuchi asks, appearing behind Oikawa again.
"For caring," Oikawa says. "Can you deny that?"
Futakuchi just glares at him. "So what if I do care about you? We live together. I have a responsibility."
Even as he says it, Oikawa can tell they both know he's lying. He totally cares. If anything, Oikawa's grin widens. "Sure," he says. And for what it's worth, they share a smile, because their night can't get any worse, so it's only natural that it's about to get way better.

Iwaizumi Hajime/Oikawa Tooru (Haikyuu!!) Explicit
Iwaizumi is beautiful, spread out beneath him, his mouth open in a silent gasp, his back an arc as he lifts off the bed, meeting Oikawa's hips with his. He lets out a low, needy sound from the back of his throat and Oikawa doesn't think he's heard anything more perfect in the entire world.
It's dark in their room. The light is still on in the lounge room, because they didn't turn it off in their haste, just like they didn't want to let go of each other for long enough to turn the light on here. The orange glow of it shines through the door, giving their skin a faint shine in the darkness, just enough to see each other by.
It doesn't matter. They don't need the lights for this. They don't need to be guided, not when they know each other so thoroughly that it feels that they came into the world knowing each other's every thought, every move.
Oikawa rocks his hips and Iwaizumi's moan is loud, hanging in the air, lingering at the back of Oikawa's mind, writing itself into the core of his very being. He can make Iwaizumi sound like this. He can make Iwaizumi feel this good.
It's the most powerful feeling in the world, Oikawa thinks with a smile, to be able to give the person you love most exactly what they need. Even like this, even as they cling to each other, fingers tightly interlocked, skin and hair damp with sweat, eyes bright as they watch each other.
Iwaizumi is objectively handsome, but Oikawa has never cared about objectivity, about removing his own feelings from the equation when it comes to Iwaizumi. Not when there are too many of them, all of them too strong, too complex to unravel from each other. He loves Iwaizumi like a piece of himself, not his to own but his to complete, just the same as Iwaizumi completes him. It's not about balance, but about pulling each other along, pushing each other forward, being there for each other. Iwaizumi isn't a pillar for Oikawa to fall back on, but an equal, a goal, a rival, all combined into one. He reminds Oikawa of the growth he still needs, but also that he doesn't need to get there alone.
Oikawa grips Iwaizumi's hands a little tighter, thrusting into him. They let go, so they can wrap their arms around each other instead. They're both close, and they need this, they need more. Oikawa doesn't hold himself back. Iwaizumi doesn't either as they take and take from each other, giving in return, gasping into the space between their mouths, and Oikawa loves, loves, like it's a fire that could consume him whole. Iwaizumi is vocal when they're like this, a soft, oh, oh, that rises in volume, and Oikawa loves the sound of it, loves the desperation, the way that Iwaizumi can't hold it back, no matter how hard he tries.
Their sex isn't always like this. They've slept with each other often enough that it's not the big, world-changing experience they were once worried it would be. Their sex is easy, casual, but sometimes they get wrapped up in each other like this, when it stops being about getting off and more about what they can make each other feel.
Iwaizumi comes with a loud moan and Oikawa wants to keep it forever, wants it to be a part of him so that he can stop and remember that he is this person, the kind that gives Iwaizumi what he needs, the kind that can make Iwaizumi sound like that—not because it's a reminder that he needs, but purely because he can.
Oikawa responds in kind, following him soon after and they're floating, even when they're secure in each other's arms. They're drifting, their foreheads resting against each other, chests rising and falling in perfect sync. They clean up quickly when they've caught their breaths, then collapse into bed together again.
There was a book, Oikawa remembers, lost somewhere in his childhood, dog-eared and crumpled, from when he first fell in love with space. He remembers the book telling him that everything in the world is made of stardust, of the matter from stars so old that they stopped exploding long before anything Oikawa knows was even formed. He remembers what an abstract concept it was to him back then, how unbelievable, that everything, special or not, was once part of a star.
He can believe it when he looks at Iwaizumi, he can shut his eyes and imagine it, Iwaizumi with an entire galaxy inside of him, made of the same matter as the oldest and biggest stars. He wants to laugh at himself for the thought, because he isn't imagining the science of it, but imagining Iwaizumi made of pure starlight, of everything wonderful in the universe.
Perhaps they're made from the same star, Oikawa thinks, and the thought makes him smile. Perhaps that's why they're drawn to each other like this, completing each other the way they were once complete, so long ago.
He whispers these thoughts to Iwaizumi, because someone needs to laugh at him, but instead he gets an arm around him, as Iwaizumi pulls him into a kiss.
"That means we'll shine together, huh?" Iwaizumi asks, and Oikawa can only smile, because there's nothing he wants more than that, for the world to see the way they shine in each other's presence, for them to dazzle everyone with their strength combined.
"I suppose that we'll just have to find out," Oikawa replies, his smile growing wider as he leans over Iwaizumi and presses small kisses all over his face, because all of this love needs to go somewhere, before he bursts.
Iwaizumi holds him still, smiling fondly up at him, and pulls him close again, until they're lying beside each other. Oikawa hums contently, wrapping an arm around Iwaizumi. He shuts his eyes, tucking Iwaizumi's head under his chin and keeping him close. Iwaizumi's hand finds his and they link their fingers together again. Maybe he has always belonged with Iwaizumi, or maybe Oikawa has made his own home in Iwaizumi's heart, but he belongs here now, and that's all that matters.
