i hate u
The snow falls gently around him, as if sensing his distress, caressing across his cherry red cheeks. He shivers, crouching down and wrapping his arms around himself. Dimly, he sees the snow start to rise protectively around him, enveloping him, as if they could protect the boy from the elements.
"It's not fair," he whispers to himself, voice quivering as tears start to roll down his face, "I don't w-want this, this, stupid, STUPID POWER!" His voice echoes against the icy walls of his own making, his breaths getting heavier and sobs louder, so loud that he doesn't notice footsteps coming from outside his little igloo, a voice coming closer and closer, until-
"Ow ow ow!" Tooru hears, before looking up and seeing another boy there, snow in his black spiky hair after having crashed straight into Tooru's igloo.
"Oh" the other boy says, seeing him there, "I'm sorry, did I ruin it? I ruined your thingie didn't I? I'm so sorry, my mum always says I have to be more careful but it's so hard when all I touch just breaks and I'm sorry, a-are you crying?" his hands move towards Tooru but he heistates his hands hovering in the air.
"Please don't cry, I'll help you fix it, I'm good at building things too, I'm Iwaizumi Hajime, what's your name? Please don't cry." Iwaizumi says, looking at him apprehensively.
Tooru hiccups, once, twice before he flings himself at the other boy, clinging tightly to the Iwaizumi's shirt as he wails.
Iwaizumi tries his best to pat his back light and even though it still stings a little, Tooru finds that, for the first time in years, he's warm.

Greek mythology tells the story of Apollo and Daphne: pursued by the god, Daphne flees, and in the woods, to her sanctity, she is transformed into a tree by her father, the river god. One by one, her skin cells turn to bark and her fingers and hair to leaves, and she fans out into a majestic laurel to protect the forest—and to protect herself.
No-one goes into the forest these days without reading up on their mythology first, and the story of Daphne always stuck with Hitoka. It was something so tragic, and yet such beauty came out of it. The myth drew her in, as the forest draws in visitors, and she became lost within its words, as she's now lost in amongst the trees.
Before her is a tall willow tree. It's not a laurel—there are no laurels in this forest—but it answers Hitoka's distress call. Slowly, its foremost branches come forward like two embracing arms, and the draped leaves trail along the forest floor as they reach out to Hitoka. Then, they do become arms, and the tree resolves itself into a goddess, her weeping leaves a gown of green and spun gold. She becomes shorter, just a bit taller than Hitoka, and raises her bowed head, smiling.
"You're lost," she says.
"Yes!" Hitoka's instinct is to step back, but she stays rooted to the spot. "Are you Daphne?"
The goddess laughs. "Daphne is many miles from here," she says. "I'm a dryad of this forest. My name is Kiyoko."
"Kiyoko," Hitoka repeats. "Will you help me? I've brought an offering, just in case..."
She reaches into her backpack and scrambles through until she finds the seeds. "Laurel seeds," she explained. "A-at least I think they are... I bought them off the internet, so you can never be sure. But, they'll grow in this forest, whatever they are. I've done enough plant magic to know they're not weeds."
"That is kind of you," Kiyoko says, "but I do not require an offering to help you."
Hitoka jumps, spilling the seeds at her feet. "You don't—?"
"It has been many years since I last saw a human in these woods," Kiyoko says. "Meeting you is enough of a gift for me."
"Oh," Hitoka says, her voice quiet. She feels bad now, leaving Kiyoko after all this—but she has to get home. Apart from anything else, her mother will be worrying. "I'm sorry."
"Do not be sorry," Kiyoko says, and, smiling, she begins to move towards a clearing in the forest. "This is the way; follow me."
Hitoka walks behind her, careful not to step on Kiyoko's trailing dress. "How will I find you again?" she asks.
"If you come back to this forest, there is a chance that you could run into many dangers," Kiyoko says. "I would advise against it." She pauses, and then, looking over her shoulder, adds, "If you were to return, I would find you."
"Thank you," Hitoka says. She feels her cheeks light up with a blush. "I will come back."
As they reach the edge of the woods and Hitoka turns to leave it behind and make her way home, so too she has to part with Kiyoko. Ten paces away, she turns back to look. The sun is setting over the forest, glowing in orange and pink above the green canopy, and the brushes of a willow tree fade through the dying light.
Until next time, Hitoka thinks.

happy v-day mandy!
oisuga, pokemon AU
(p.s: guess what the title's referencing!)
it’s quiet when tooru wakes up, blinking back sleep to fluffy clouds, quiet trees. he doesn’t remember where he is, doesn’t remember how he got there, vaguely recalls sneaking out of opelucid to train (iwa-chan is certain to hound after him once he realises tooru’s gone out for extra training again — outside the gym, no less. actually, he’s somewhat surprised he didn’t wake up to iwa-chan’s lovely bedside demeanour to start with.)
and that’s when he hears it: a soft, twinkling melody and the afterimage of cotton candy mist at his peripherals, the telltale signs of a munna in the vicinity almost textbook, really. except, munna don't — shouldn’t — be anywhere near opelucid city, and tooru’s has already evolved, left to look after takeru at home to live out all the dreams he’s so used to forgetting once he wakes.
except, tooru also knows all too well someone who does.
there’s a laugh, off to his left. tooru blinks, sitting up only to be nudged gently back down again. when the laughter stops, the voice moves to shape itself into one word, then two, then a whole sentence.
“i was right,” sugawara says, and tooru twists his head, chasing the gentle cadence of his voice.
“refreshing-kun?”
sugawara laughs again. “really though, oikawa — why am i not surprised to find you this way again.” there’s a hum beside suga, and just like tooru suspected, there suga’s munna is, unless….
“what are you doing here, refreshing-kun?”
sugawara smiles. “have a guess.”
and tooru smiles back, though he suspects his charm isn’t nearly as effective on sugawara as it is anyone else. it doesn’t matter — he keeps smiling anyway.
tooru says, “maybe i dreamt you.”
“wouldn’t that be something,” sugawara answers, leaning forward, towards tooru. tooru can’t tell if he’s right or not, can’t tell if it’s a good thing or not, but he shuts his eyes all the same. he feels sugawara’s breath whisper-light over his eyelids, feels his own breathing speed up in response. he thinks it might be alright, even if this is a dream.
so long as he still remembers when he wakes up again.

Oikawa Tooru/Sawamura Daichi (Haikyuu!!) PG
Daichi doesn't wear t-shirts around their apartment and honestly, Tooru thinks to himself as he openly stares at those back muscles, this sort of thing should be illegal.
It's unfair, that Tooru is subjected to this sort of thing on a daily basis. It's one thing to be on the same volleyball team as Daichi now that they're in university. It's another thing entirely to be living with him. The brief glimpses they get of each other in the locker rooms is manageable. Nobody's going to be bothered by it because it's just not the time or place for it. Usually, Tooru's too focused on the game to think about the fact that Daichi is half naked beside him, but it's a different matter when they're at home, when there isn't anything to occupy Tooru's mind, nothing to distract him from the fact that Daichi is right there, that he's not wearing a shirt, and Tooru is honestly torn between snapping at him to put something on, or to just go and burn all of Daichi's shirts so he never wears one again.
Daichi turns around, his mug of coffee in his hand, and raises an eyebrow at Tooru. "Are you okay?"
"Fine," Tooru huffs, looking away. "I was just about to go for a run. I was going to ask if you wanted to come."
"I went earlier in the morning," Daichi replies. "We can run together tomorrow, if you want."
Tooru doesn't reply, because he doesn't really know whether or not he wants to encourage it. He just goes to put his running shoes on, looking forward to getting his frustrations out with a bit of exercise.
Towards the end of their third year of high school, there was a kind of mutual respect between Tooru and Daichi, coming from being fellow captains, from being good players, from facing each other on court. It's since grown into something like friendship, but it's different to what Tooru is used to, with his other friends. He's never been one to shy away from appreciating just how handsome his friends were, and he knows that he has plenty of attractive friends, but Daichi seems to get under his skin; not quite irritating, but difficult to ignore all the same. His thoughts about Daichi are persistent, always at the back of his mind even when he tries to push them away.
He takes the long route this morning, hoping to focus on his running instead of Daichi. His attention narrows to his breathing, the feel of his shoes hitting the pavement, the feel of the wind against his face as he runs.
He doesn't realise he's managed to stop thinking about Daichi until he gets back to their apartment block, but then he starts all over again and he growls with frustration, stretching before he climbs the stairs.
Daichi is sitting on the couch, watching TV with his coffee mug still sitting on the table. Tooru pulls his shirt off, using it to wipe the sweat off his face, hanging it over his shoulder as he bends to untie his shoelaces.
When he stands up again, Daichi is staring at him, an odd expression on his face. Tooru blinks at him and then, because he'll never pass up an opportunity to tease, he grins widely.
"Like what you see, Sawamura?"
He doesn't expect Daichi to flush bright red in response. He definitely doesn't expect the way Daichi holds his gaze and says, "Yeah, I do."
"Oh." Tooru blinks and then gestures in Daichi's direction, because he's still not wearing a shirt. "Well. You know. Same."
"Really?" Daichi asks, raising an eyebrow.
"Is that really a surprise to you?" Tooru laughs quietly. "I mean, look at you. I'm sure you know how nice those muscles are. Besides, you're never wearing a shirt. Don't you know how incredibly rude it is, having all of that on display whenever we're at home?"
Daichi glances down at himself, before he looks up at Tooru again. "I didn't think you really cared either way. You never really said anything."
"Of course I didn't," Tooru scoffs. "I couldn't exactly tell you to put a shirt on because your abs were distracting me from doing my homework, could I?"
Daichi grins, the tip of his ears going pink and oh no, Tooru thinks despairingly, that's really cute. "I guess that would have been a bit… weird. But isn't this weird too? Talking about it now?"
"It's a little weird," Tooru admits. "But that's okay, I guess. I don't think that we can really talk about this sort of thing without it being weird."
"Well, at the risk of making things even weirder," Daichi says, "I thought you were hot back when we were in high school too. I don't know if it's because we're on the same team and live together so we're more familiar with each other, or if it's because you've changed since then, but you're probably even hotter now."
Tooru grins, even though he can feel his face heating. "You're not too shabby yourself, you know. You've always seemed pretty solid and firm, even when we were in high school, but actually seeing those muscles every day is completely different to standing on opposite sides of a court, you know."
"Oikawa," Daichi says, sitting up a little, turning on the couch so that he's facing Tooru properly. "I think you should come over here."
"I'm sweaty," Tooru replies, more of a warning than a protest as he walks closer. "I just went for a run."
"I don't mind," Daichi murmurs, reaching for Tooru's hand as soon as he's close enough. Daichi's fingers are firm as they circle his wrist, pulling him down onto the couch.
"Are you going to kiss me, Sawamura?" Tooru asks, trying to sound casual, not quite minding the fact that he isn't doing a very convincing job of it.
"Yeah," Daichi breathes, still pulling Tooru in. "That's exactly what I'm going to do."
Tooru leans in, meeting Daichi's lips with his own, kissing him firmly before pulling back. "Now, do it again."
Daichi is more than happy to comply.
