Series You're Currently Watching: I've been really bad at watching anime lately but I've picked up Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu and decided to finish Mushishi Zoku Shou. I'm open to recommendations!!
I watch New Japan Pro Wrestling regularly too. ~~It's practically an anime, trust me.~~

Talk to me about a recent (or not-so-recent) obsession: My recent obsessions are animu figures (??? why did I choose this hobby? Goodbye money) and Japanese pro wrestling, which is more anime than anime anymore I s2g. It's like watching giant 12 year olds get into a slap fight. NEway I've been traveling really far or out of state to catch wrasslin shows. The last one I went to was a Japanese ladies wrestling event and it blew me away.
So basically none of my recent obsessions are socially acceptable hobbies ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

I really really really like it so far! It's got all the weird things I like in a series- unique art, josei (or seinen) target audience, historic setting, and WEIRD CULTURAL STUFF (yay Rakugo!). I remember hearing about the manga a while ago and I'd wanted to read it but it's not licensed or even scanlated :((( so I'm really glad that it got an anime adaptation and that it seems to be really good so far. I was worried cause DEEN is animating it but so far they're doing a nice job? There's not much action so hopefully the animation quality won't drop.

Ummm so basically every year on January 4th New Japan (a wrestling company) holds a really big show (Wrestle Kingdom) that's like the equivalent of Wrestlemania here in the US. Last year my twitter feed EXPLODED with people who watched the event. Like, even people that I didn't know liked wrestling were watching it. I'd seen a few of the guys and they were really cool/cute/whatever lookin' and it seemed like it was different than mainstream western wrestling, which I've never cared for. So I watched that years Wrestle kingdom and I was totally hooked. Turns out it totally was different than WWE, everyone has great costumes, the storytelling is fun and easy to understand even without subtitles or English commentary, the personas of the wrestlers are all really interesting (and most of them are sweethearts IRL) and I got totally addicted! I've since branched out into some smaller western/American promotions that function more independently/totally different from WWE, and I'm slowly working into Japanese women's wrestling too. I've been to a few shows for both cause they've realized their popularity outside of Japan!

AAAAAA OMG!!!!!! I TOTALLY AGREE and those are things i really love too, especially like historal and cultural stuff! i had a look at some rakugo videos on youtube after i watched the first episode and it was pretty cool, im glad the anime included like the two full rakugo performances i was worried itd just be mentioned or brief but im glad it was the whole stories!! it seems really cool and interesting so far so im excited for the coming eps
and aww man i hope the anime will bring some more attention to the series and maybe scanlations with it so the manga is accessible, itd be nice to read it too

Yeah, I've meant to watch/do more research into rakugo! I knew a little bit about it before watching the series so I wasn't going in totally blind. I really liked that so far all the characters have different performance styles, and DEEN has actually done a really good job with their camera angles to denote different characters speaking during performances. I really hope they can keep it up!
I haven't read scanlations in so long cause I'm really not a fan of them... Depending on the length of the manga I guess it's possible it could actually get licensed for sale in English/US territories. It is a pretty obscure topic though, and it's josei... Hrm.

I'm glad you found it interesting! You can generally find Wrestle Kingdom for download pretty easily if you're curious! It's a good place to start cause it's the beginning of a new year so it means new plot lines and title changes and whatnot. ~~I can also totally find you a DL if you want lmao, or just link you a couple good matches cause WK is generally around 4... hours... long... sob.~~
Sadly that guy is actually leaving NJPW for a branch of WWE ;A; I'm gonna miss him and his cape and his entrance theme. They probably won't make him change his overall style or how he wrestles, but I'll miss what I've known about him so far. I'm going to try my best to support him here though!

I have 2 dogs so I try to pet them near constantly, and I'm one of those people that will totally come up and ask to pet someone's dogs because EVERY DOG MUST BE PET.

YEAH! It's ruined movies in theaters for me tbh. I think ostentatious action movies are my favorite genre (cause until Fury Road. Terminator 2 was like, my ultimate movie I love 80s-90s action movies) but Fury Road is just SO good and SO pretty that it kind of ruins seeing anything else in a theater? I never went to theaters much before but now whenever I have the option of seeing a film in theaters I'm just like "... but it's not Mad Max, I'll watch it at home."

Mad Max was a huge surprise to me in a good way! I really enjoy action movies but usually not enough to watch in theatres, besides marvel ones (I have really fond memories of the terminator trilogy though, in all their face metal melting glory) and I came into mad max expecting to enjoy the action but not more than that. But it really blew me away! Literal edge of my seat for that movie.

I remember the internet making a huge stink about it after not caring about the Mad Max franchise forever and usually when the internet freaks out about something I'm left underwhelmed? So I went in with really low expectations (stuff blows up) but I was completely surprised and impressed by everything in the movie!
I just hate going to theaters and will only go if I REALLY want to see the movie (or it's free, that's how I saw Crimson Peak, lol). I think I saw Fury Road 3 times in theaters though.

Right??! And somehow they can generally perform so that nobody gets hurt! There are accidents and some people do hit harder than others to make it appear more real but still??? I love it. It's insane.

yay for parks and rpdr!!!!! i feel like i've been waiting 55 years for a new season

also re: anime recommendations after checking everything out this season i think bubuki buranki has the most potential! (also. if you can, watch tsuritama!)

Admittedly I totally gave up watching RPDR season 7 cause it was just kinda blehhrhrhhhhghh to me. It's weird that they haven't announced a season 8 cast yet though? I hope there's nothing wrong with the production or anything. There's no shortage of talented queens so come on guys!
I wanna watch more Parks! I went through 3 seasons in about a week, oops.

the drama was so forced in s7 or at least it seemed that way to me, i loved pearl and katya tho so i watched for them. i think they haven't cuz according to the rpdr reddit there were rumours they were filming allstars 2, i know there's a few queens i hope get into s8!
PARKS IS SO DELIGHTFUL i don't blame you, i'd say it enjoy it while you can since once you're done that's it, i cried so much when the show ended since it was at least 80% of my situational happiness, lol.

it's got ability users mixed with mecha and kids trying to save the world and sads, so to me it's the most appealing obviously (save me). i'm on vacation atm so i'm watching shows i usually wouldn't just to pass the time lmao. i will probably end up dropping some but!! at least bubuki looks like a keeper.

Yeah and after 7 seasons you'd think they'd realize how stale it all is? YES PEARL AND KATYA! I know Michelle mentioned something on twitter about how they'd reveal the cast "when they're ready" so I figure it's still a ways off. I can't say I'd even be super excited tbh so I'm fine waiting? Not like the wait for seasons 2-4 which was agonizing. I recently watched all of uhhhh... 6? When it was airing I didn't like much of it aside from obvs Bianca, but watching it as a chunk was actually really fun.
IT'S SO CUTE. My bf and I were watching it so I was just gonna wait for him I think.

Ohhh ok! I usually don't go for shows w/kids as the main characters anymore (I'm old :c) but it did seem kind of interesting so I might give it a shot! I was looking into Dimension W or Boku Dake ga Inai Machi but I dunno if I'm gonna get around to trying them.
Totally can't wait for Ajin to air though. I loved what the studio did for Knights of Sidonia so I hope that Ajin gets just as good of a treatment.

I haven't seen the Brohood anime but I really enjoyed the FMA manga. I heard it was a good adaptation of it? I remember trying to watch the first series a long time ago but I never finished it.

Yes, the brotherhood ver is a good adaptation of the manga. :DDDD I honestly liked the first series tbh and then when Brotherhood came out, I was blown away.
